Navy and White Cake Smash
Sometimes cake smash sessions are very specifically themed. And others all we need is a color scheme to create a special celebration photo shoot for a newly one year old! This little guy’s mom had the balloon filled number one she wanted to incorporate into the set, so I took my inspiration from those colors to put together this festive set.
This little guy was so much fun to photograph. He had the coolest little personality and was so incredibly chill. He even left his little hat on for the entire session which almost never happens!
This is my favorite little prop for one year olds. I bought it as a newborn prop, but I use it for almost every one year old session. Kids love it, and they usually have a hard time figuring out how to get out of it. It makes the perfect little baby trap! Finally it was time for the main event! Cake!
We really thought he was going to go all in with his face straight into the cake for a minute! He backed off at the last second and decided using his fingers was more fun.
I’m pretty sure he was more interested in just playing with the frosting, but that’s pretty typical for these sessions. Very rarely do I get a baby in the studio who actually wants to EAT the cake. They don’t know what they are missing out on!
He did manage to take a few big bites after some help from his mom. I’m not sure he was very impressed.
Like with most cake smash sessions, the wooden spoon was a big hit. I’ve yet to meet a one year old who wasn’t enthralled with playing with the spoon. It’s a great trick to get them interested in the cake again once the novelty of it wears off. And I think it looks adorable in the pictures!
This was such a fun session. My favorite part of cake smash sessions is seeing it go from an idea in my head all the way through to the finished images. No two sessions are ever the same!
My favorite sessions are torn between newborn pictures and cake smash pictures! It’s so much fun to see their personality emerge in the first birthday pictures.
I kind of want that chair in adult size. Looks perfect to read a book!
