How to Make a Photo Go Viral
The past eight days have been a WILD ride for me. If you have been living under a rock, you may have missed it but this past week there has been a set of photos of a grumpy baby that have gone mega viral. They are EVERYWHERE. This viral photo has been seen around the entire globe!
Well that grumpy looking little guy is one of my clients. When I posted the pictures to Facebook, I never expected the amount of attention they have gotten. At this moment, the original post is sitting at around 20 MILLION views! So I thought I’d write up a quick blog post to explain how I made this post go viral.
How to Make a Photo Go Viral
Step One: Take a Picture That Could Be a Viral Photo
Your picture should be a quality photo that is in focus with good lighting. The subject should be interesting or funny or cute – like this grumpy looking little cutie!
Step 2: Post the picture online
Upload your picture to your favorite social media platform. I shared these photos on both my Facebook (www.facebook.com/drawinginlightphotography) and Instagram accounts (www.instagram.com/drawinginlightphotography)
Step 3: That’s it. That’s all the advice I’ve got.
Seriously, I have no idea how to make a photo go viral. I really don’t think you can *make* anything go viral. I’ve posted hundreds of photos over the years. Some have gotten a lot of attention and some have gotten virtually none. There doesn’t seem to be any real rhyme or reason to why some things do well and others don’t. Is there a secret to a viral photo? Maybe. But I have no clue what that secret is, and I would seriously doubt anyone who tells you they do!
Why I Think This Turned Into a Viral Photo:
I have my theories as to why these particular photos went viral. I think it boils down to the fact that this little guy made people smile. His newborn baby innocence mirrors what a lot of us are thinking and feeling about this world in its current state and seeing his sweet face with such an intense expression is something we want other people to see too. So people shared it. Then more people saw it and shared it.
Soon everyone had seen this adorably grumpy baby. At only 7 days old, little baby Trent has become a mega star bringing smiles to millions of people. Not a bad way to start a life.
