It's time to celebrate!!
Your baby is a whole year old! If you're anything like me, the last year was probably simultaneously the longest and shortest year of your life. From those first cries, through cutting that first tooth, learning to sit up, and crawl, and maybe your little one has already taken their first steps.
So much happens the first year of your baby's life, so what better way to celebrate than with CAKE?!?

I absolutely love planning and putting together custom sets for cake smash sessions. No two sessions are ever exactly the same. When we start to plan your session, we will decide on a theme and then I'll take it from there. Your session includes everything except the cake!

Where and when are sessions held?
Sessions can take place in my studio located in Springdale, Ohio. I try to schedule cake smash sessions around your baby's happiest time of day.
When is the best time to schedule a milestone session?
Some clients like to do pictures in time to have them printed for a first birthday party, others prefer to wait until their baby is officially one year old. It's totally up to you! Keep in mind that my turn around time for these pictures is about two weeks.
What about the cake?
Babies often have sensitive tummies and my own kids had severe food allergies, so I do not provide any edible items for this session. I do have a list of bakers that I recommend that I am happy to share with you. And not every cake smash has to include cake - I've done smash sessions with tacos, watermelon, even Skyline Chili!
My baby has never had cake, what if they don't like it?
In my experience it is very common for babies to not be impressed with the cake itself. Sometimes they aren't used to the sweetness and sometimes they just don't like getting messy. If that happens, don't worry! I have lots of tricks to still get adorable pictures even if they don't eat a single bite.
Can parents and siblings be in pictures too?
We can grab one or two quick pictures with siblings and/or parents, but the majority of these sessions is focused on baby. If you're interested in a family session, you can find more information here: https://drawinginlightphotography.com/families
Who gets to pick which images are included in our gallery?
After your session I look through all the images from your session. I delete any duplicates, images with awkward expressions, out of focus images, and any others that are not up to my professional standards.
I put the rest through my editing process and upload them to your online gallery. The amount
of images depends on how cooperative your little one is, but I always try to get at least 20 images for you! Many times with cake smash sessions I get lots more.
What if my baby doesn’t cooperate?
I am a very go-with-the-flow photographer. If your little one needs some time at the beginning of the session to get used to new surroundings, that's totally okay. I always block out extra time for these sessions so you never feel rushed. I follow baby’s lead through the session and take as many breaks as we needs for baby to eat or snuggle. If your little one still isn’t cooperating with our session even though all their needs are being met, there will be the option to try again another day to get enough images to fill your gallery.
