I cake believe it’s already time for a cake smash for this little lady. I met this sweet girl and her family a whole year ago for her newborn session, and she was adorable then. Just look at that sweet little face:
Fast forward an entire year, and she is standing up and laughing and being silly and I think she even got cuter as the year went on. I have been so honored to document her entire first year and her family! And when it came time to pick a theme for her session we took the invitation from her first birthday party and turned it into a session!
I took the colors and theme from her invitation and pulled it all together for one cohesive look. It was perfect for a spring time birthday for a special one year old little girl!
This was the first time I tried making a balloon arch for a session too. It was such a fun way to incorporate all the colors and gave a perfect backdrop for such a big occasion.
This white chair makes an appearance in a lot of my sessions. I love this chair so much! It is great for babies because they can’t fall out the sides and it is super sturdy. Although don’t worry – I still have someone within reach of baby at all times. Safety is always my number one priority! I see similar chairs often, but I got this particular chair from Amazon: https://amzn.to/3vKHCA5
I mean, that’s the whole reason we were there! Miss L was very excited about this part of her session and wasted no time getting to business.
Miss L was mostly interested in getting the sugary frosting and squishing it between her fingers. That’s pretty common with a lot of one year olds at their cake smash session. I’d guess that only about 40% of the babies I photograph actually get excited about eating their cake.
I think frosting is the best part anyway. And it makes a good mess to get the frosting covered baby pictures everyone loves so much from a cake smash session!
Eventually she realized that frosting not only felt good to play with, but actually tastes really good too! And the cake underneath all that frosting was pretty darn tasty too.
I absolutely adore the shot of her squishing her cake. She was so focused on getting her hands in there and playing with her cake. We were all laughing so hard because it was just so dang cute!
What an amazing way to celebrate a whole year of growth! I can’t wait to see what this next year brings for Miss L and her family!
If so, I would love to chat about planning a fun cake smash session for them! Hit that contact me button below and get in touch!
