Cake smash sessions are often heavily themed. Sometimes they are based on a fandom or favorite book. Other times a favorite food or a particular style. But they definitely don’t have to be! Sometimes having just a “simple” color theme is the perfect choice!
I first met Miss Oakley as a newborn. Just look at her. Isn’t she adorable!?!? I actually have this image of her on a canvas in my studio and almost everyone who comes in comments on how beautiful she is.
Fast forward a year and she is now a funny, energetic, adorable toddler! I was so excited to see her back for our cake smash session and I love the peach and mint color scheme we used for her session.
It took her a little bit to warm up to me, but that’s totally normal for one year olds! I’m a stranger with a big flashing umbrella and a camera. I almost always win them over, and once Miss Oakley warmed up she was all smiles!
I couldn’t believe how much she has grown in only one year! Just look how tall she is and those thighs are the best!!
Finally it was time for her cake! Her parents warned me that Miss Oakley doesn’t like getting her hands messy and wasn’t a big fan of smashing a cake at her party. But have no fear, I always keep wooden spoons in the studio for just this reason. It’s actually pretty common in the one year olds I photograph. And I think the wooden spoons photograph really cute too!
And when you have a whole cake to yourself, the polite thing is to share your cake with your dad!
After the excitement of the cake wore off, Miss Oakley had a good time playing drums on the cake stand with her spoon. It made a really good noise and we jammed for quite a while!
